There are just 6 weeks left till Election Day, and we’ve got a lot of work to do to deliver a long-awaited BLUE VICTORY! Also, congrats to our new Freshman Reps, Alex Weiss and Taylor Bates! ANNOUNCEMENTS The first debate of the fall starts at 9PM on Friday, September 26. Come join the Tufts Dems at 8:45 in Hotung Cafe to watch the action! The local ABC affiliate will be there to talk to students and ask our opinion on the election. There will be a casual gathering afterward at the home of our fearless leader, Shana, at 9 Fairmount Street (behind Wren, near the Dunkin Donuts on Boston Ave.). This gathering is in no way officially related to the Tufts Dems. Canvass for Obama! We’re going to New Hampshire this Saturday, September 27 to canvass for Obama and Jeanne Shaheen. New Hampshire is CRITICAL to this election. Al Gore lost the state by 1%. If he had won NH, he would have won the entire election, so let’s make sure we win it for Obama! We’re leaving at 9:30 at the Campus Center and expect to return around 5 PM. Please RSVP to Shana (shana [dot] hurley [at] tufts [dot] edu) for this event. Remember to request your absentee ballot! For general voting questions, www.declareyourself.com and www.voteforchange.com are great resources. For specific inquiries, contact Tufts Votes or emily [dot] hellman [at] tufts [dot] edu We STRONGLY encourage everyone to apply for the 4 other e-board positions available: Social Committee Chair (Plan social events for the Tufts Democrats including parties, Boston-area outings, and debate watching events. Presence at board meetings mandatory.) • Board Member-at-Large (Work on special projects and take control over specific events. Presence at board meetings mandatory.) • Managing Editor of The Forum (Experience with campus publications or your college newspaper? Want to make The Forum the place for progressive commentary at Tufts? Help us out! Contact jessica [dot] abelson [at] tufts [dot] edu with questions). • Webmaster (Help us improve the functionality and content of our website, making it a resource of which we can maximize the potential.) - Please also bear in mind that the general membership is expected to play a role on all three of these projects. As such, even if you’re not on the e-board, there are LOADS of opportunities to be very involved and there will be plenty of opportunities to take ownership of your own project this fall. To apply, write a short essay of 400-500 words. Please state which position you would like to apply and why. Also include any qualifications or past experience you have relating to the position or with the Tufts Democrats (or politics in general). For the webmaster and Forum positions, you are encouraged to include a sample of your work. All applications should be emailed to Shana (shana [dot] hurley [at] tufts [dot] edu) before 6 PM on Friday, September 26. STUDENTS FOR BARACK OBAMA!
