2006 Predictions
The House: Was Republicans 232 to Democrats 202. I'm thinking that the sides will about switch. I won't pick individual races here - but I will pick a random number out of the sky - Democrats regain control with 229.
The Senate: This is going to be close; real close. Democrats will pick up at least 3 seats. Including independents, I'm going to go nuts and predict a final senate composition of Democrats - 49, Republicans - 49, Independents - 2. I'll call some close races and say why.
Montana: Challenger Tester (Democrat) has been ahead of Republicans incumbent Conrad Burns the entire race. The race has tightened but I'm still predicting TESTERS WINS (D pickup)
Missouri: The closest race in the country (fo' serious) with mixed trends, right in my home state. If I get any race wrong, it will be this one. Challenger Claire McCaskill is currently boasting an unstatistically insignificant lead in most polls. I also think she's on the winning side of the much publicized stem cell dabate. But really, this is a blind guess. McCASKILL WINS (D pickup).
Tennessee: For a while people were talking almost like Challenger Ford (Democrat) was the next coming of Obama in conservative clothing. No more, although he may have been beaten down by underhanded racist ads. CORKER WINS (R Hold).
Virginia: The second closest race in the country. Maybe even as close as Missouri. Allen, despite his quirks, was up most of thr race, but Challenger Web (Democrat) has had some serious momentum these past couple weeks. I'm calling an upset! WEB WINS (D pickup).
Maryland: Challenger Steele's numbers (Republican) have been rising toward incumbent Cardin (Democrat) like pork during the current congress. Cardin is in serious danger, but I still think he'll squeak by. CARDIN WINS (D Hold).
New Jersey: Menendez (Democrat incumbent) has been seen as corrupt. Still, its New Jersey and Kean's been behind the whole race. MENENDEZ WINS (D hold).
Rhode Island: Challenger Whitehouse (Democrat) faces a well entrenched and beloved Chafee candidate in Rhode Island. Still, he's been leading in all the polls. This could be a mysterious upset, but I'm going to guess with the numbers. WHITEHOUSE WINS (D pickup).
Governors: Demcorats - 29, Republicans - 21. I'm not going through individual races here.
